About me: Learning mandarin (hsk 1 currently), fav colour is orange, fav animal is tiger.

This blog will probably be more of a art progress kinda thing lol, might include other stuff at some point or use another page

Here i have some more oil pastel testing, these were again my own cheap ones. I tried using a reference but it didnt turn out how i wanted to i redid it and this is the result. I tried to capture the look of chapped lips and "raw" gums. as with majority of traditional art, it always looks better in real life T^T. I am really liking oil pastels and hoping to incorporate them mostly into my folio for this year and what not.

This is my first actual work with my oil pastels I bought recently. They're a bit hard to work with because they're cheaper, this means they have more wax and filler than pigment. Where more expensive oil pastels have a higher level of pigment rather than wax, which leads to a more vivid colour and are usually easier to blend. They also don't get that weird flaky bits when you press too hard as much. But yeah i have the cheaper ones so they're not as colourful, harder to blend, and if you press too hard a bunch of stuff flakes off. OH AND they also they don't last as long and may "bleed" into their casings. This is due to the lower quality in pigment and higher level of wax which can lead to separation. It's kind of similar to cheap vs expensive ice cream. (1/03/2026)
